Learn more about Power/ Ground Resonance Analysis

What Is Power/ Ground Resonance Analysis?

Analyzes resonance between power and ground planes, a major cause of EMI.
The analysis results can be viewed as frequency characteristics and voltage distributions. Capacitors can be placed automatically or manually to help suppress resonance and optimize the PCB design.

Video Display of Resonance Analysis Results

Displays resonance analysis results as an animation.
Visualizing the behavior of resonance at each frequency over time makes it easier to understand changes in voltage distribution and phase.

Example: Resonance at 660 MHz

Resonance Analysis Reporting [Optional]

Exports plane resonance analysis results in Excel format.
Multiple analysis results can be consolidated into a single report, including comparisons before and after countermeasures and analysis results for all power planes on the PCB. These reports can be retained as documentation of the analysis results and the effectiveness of countermeasures.

  • * This is an optional feature. It is included as standard in the EMIStream Expert Edition.

Multilayer Resonance Analysis [EMIStream Expert Edition]

Resonance can occur not only between power and ground planes but also between ground planes. In such cases, adding vias between ground planes is one possible countermeasure.
Multilayer plane analysis evaluates resonance across multiple power and ground planes, taking into account vias as well as conventional capacitors. This enables users to evaluate plane geometries and optimize capacitor and via placement.

  • * This feature is available only in the EMIStream Expert Edition.

GEARSPICE High-Speed, High-Performance Analysis Engine [Optional]

Provides approximately 20 times the processing speed of conventional SPICE, delivering fast results even for analyses using fine meshes. It also calculates frequency-dependent skin effects and dielectric losses.
This significantly reduces the effort required to calculate skin effects and dielectric losses at individual frequencies.

  • * This is an optional feature. It is included as standard in the EMIStream Expert Edition.

Far-Field Calculation [EMIStream Expert Edition]

A voltage-versus-frequency graph showing resonance magnitude is sufficient for evaluating resonance suppression, but it does not reveal the relationship between resonance and far-field radiation.
This feature calculates radiated electric field characteristics and azimuth patterns based on the voltage distribution along plane edges, enabling users to evaluate the far-field radiation characteristics associated with resonance.

  • * This feature is available only in the EMIStream Expert Edition.
